Choosing the Right Heater

An undersized heater will struggle to keep your water warm during winter, while an oversized heater can be a safety risk if the thermostat fails.

The Two-Heater Rule

For larger tanks (over 50 gallons), many hobbyists prefer using two smaller heaters instead of one large one. If one fails "on," it is less likely to overheat the tank; if one fails "off," the second heater provides a safety net.

Placement Matters

• Near Flow: Place your heater near the filter intake or outlet to ensure warm water is distributed evenly.
• Horizontal Mounting: Some heaters work better when mounted at a 45-degree angle or horizontally to prevent heat from rising directly into the thermostat.
